Congress seems not to care about the economy and how it affects our lives. Let us look at what we pay for their inability to do anything meaningful. Each Congressman or Senator receives:
- $174,000 salary
- Free car
- Free gas
- Free parking (even at airports)
- Free flights almost anywhere in the world
- Per diem travel allowance… up to $3,000 a trip
- A month’s paid vacation
- 3-day work-weeks
- Free membership to a top-flight gym
- Pension plan and 401K plan
- Full retirement benefits (including up to 44% of their six figure salaries) at age 62
- Free top of the line health insurance with 10 plans to choose from
- Fully covered – even with pre-existing condition
- Free staffing both in Washington and in their Home Districts and States
Maybe if we force them to pay for some of these perks and take others away so they can relate to the average persons world, we will see some changes in their attitude.

I think it’s more a matter of limiting how much the government can take in taxes – having no limit they can pay themselves whatever they want, without worrying about going over a budget.
