Fat Tax In Denmark – The Nanny State Is Alive And Well!!!!

The Nanny State has taken a new intrusion in to the lives of ordinary people. In Denmark, they have enacted a “Fat Tax” on foods that contain fat.  Milk, Butter, Cheese now have an additional tax on it to “help people make decisions to eat healthier”. It is expected to add $168 Million to the Denmark Treasury.

The interesting issue is Denmark does not really have an obese problem. 10% of the people in Denmark are obese. Compare that to 15% overall in Europe and 1 in 3 in The United States. It appears the real issue is not obesity but raising additional funds for the government to fund their programs.

You might say this could never happen here but we already have:

  • Cities that have banned toys in fast foods as it attracts children to want them
  • Trans fats banned in certain fast food cooking
  • Requirements to list calories in foods in restaurants

The Nanny State has to go

2012 is coming!!!!
