Two recent events in New Jersey have caused me to question if there is anyone left with common sense in the New Jersey Judicial Branch. One person just won his appeal on drunk driving because the police did not speak to him in his native tongue. The ruling is causing the police to have to put computers in their cars that can speak in multiple languages. In this case it was Spanish. However they must be able to communicate in up to 6 languages other than English. Think of the cost to each city and town. I wonder, if you cannot speak the english language how can you understand it or read road signs, pass license tests etc. Does that not make you a real danger driving?
In another case a woman of Arabic descent is suing because a hospital would not honor her request in the emergency room. She had to have certain tests and as a Muslim woman, requested a woman doctor to perform those tests. After 5 hours she left and is suing Somerset Regional Hospital for not treating her properly under the Patients bill of Rights. The Hospital correctly is responding there were qualified doctors there to treat her. There is no requirement to staff for gender requests nor religious ones. Think of the costs to Health Care if each hospital had to keep doctors/ nurses of each gender or religion to offer treatment. This law suit needs to be dismissed as frivolous and the Hospital needs to be reimbursed for their legal costs from the plaintiff.
